Train movements not muscles
Most people get too wrapped up in “what muscle is this working?” The body is made to do big movements not isolate individual muscles. If you try to “Frankenstein” (a piece here, a piece there) your way through a workout a) it will take you forever to do each muscle in isolation fashion and b) you lead yourself down the path to muscle imbalances which can lead to injury.
Train large movements: Push, Pull, Squat, Lunge, Hinge, Loaded Carry, Core stability (rotation and anti rotation)
These large movement patterns involve MANY muscles at once and are tremendous for burning calories. Basically they give you a lot of BANG for your BUCK.
Once you know you have that covered then you can hit some isolation exercises.
All too often I see people mindlessly working their way through every aspect of a single muscle which a) wastes time and b) doesn’t give you very much bang for your buck.
Cover the basics with big movements.
